I had a few goals in painting this one: The first goal was to find the right color relationships to create a sense of glow in the study. I emphasized and added harmonies from the reference photo. the second goal was to try to stick strictly to flat shapes rather than form, and see how much of the gesture I can tell by using just that and not implying a third dimension. Lastly it was to see how much detail can be added without ruining the focal point of the scene, which are the values and glow. The answer is little to none at all. It is better to keep the shapes large and homogenous, which is not an easy task when trying to describe something like the foam trail of a ship.
